Pompano Beach

One of my hopes in starting this blog is that it would get me and the girls out of the house more. I had gotten too comfortable staying at home, taking our daily walks, and hoping for visitors each day. It all started in my last month of my pregnancy, thinking I could go into labor at any moment – because I would definitely be early with my second child (nope, 40 weeks, 4 days). Then, after having Anniston, we stayed home because I was still recovering. After that, we wanted to wait until she had her shots before we could brave the aisles of Target. Finally, it just became comfortable. It is so much easier to play at home than worry about how you will get two babies changed, dressed, fed, strapped in their car seats, and off to some place where you are sure that one will begin crying while the other is running all over and causing a scene.

Those thoughts ended when this blog began.

Before Anniston, I was so great at taking Juliet somewhere almost every day. My mom used to joke about how I couldn’t sit still in my own house for more than a few hours. She once even told me I needed to pretend that it was a snow day and we were trapped inside – ridiculous, obviously, because we live in South Florida – but that is how much I hated being stuck at home. So, we are no longer stuck at home. By creating the Around Town series in my blog, I am forcing myself to find new, exciting places and activities for the girls on a weekly basis – and I may squeeze in a few places that are great sans kids as well.

Side note: I fully blame Juliet if most of these places involve a splash pad – she has a built in tracking system for all activities involving water.

So, as I try to get back to the old me, I took full advantage of my husband being home on Memorial Day. He stayed home and watched the baby, while my sister and I took Jules out for a day of fun at Pompano Beach.

Living exactly two minutes from the beach means we can easily just pick up and go any time we want – huge plus. However, it also means you forget that everyone in the state of Florida heads to the beach on holiday weekends – help, we’ve been invaded. After spending thirty minutes looking for parking and another ten minutes finding a small section of sand not yet covered by towels and coolers, we threw our stuff down and took Juliet into the ocean.

Every time we got out to rest on our blanket and attempt to build sandcastles, Juliet would just point back at the water and scream “Nana! Nana!” (My mom, Juliet’s Nana, took her in the ocean last time we went, so now she has decided to call the ocean Nana – why not)

We ended our day at the splash pad, conveniently located on the way out of the beach. I highly recommend Pompano Beach for this reason alone! I have heard millions of tricks for getting sand off of toddlers at the beach, but none of those tricks beat a splash pad! Juliet ran, splashed, and made new friends all while she was getting clean!

I’m not sure anyone had a better Memorial Day than Juliet, but hope you all had a great holiday weekend!

How cute is she?! It looks like you all had such a fun trip to the beach! I wish we lived two minutes from the beach like you, but instead it’s a long drive that takes a whole day, unless we break it up, which we often do. So fun that you can just pop over any time. I totally get what you were saying about it being easier to just stay home. Getting two little ones out of the house is a chore, and then you have to time it right and make sure you have anything you might possibly need, just in case…. home is nice. Though I do try to get out when I can, usually our outings consist of a trip to Target and a few other errands if we’re feeling adventurous. haha. I love that you’re making it a point to go out and try new things with your girls! I just found your blog through the Friday link up and thought I’d say hi 🙂

Hi Hannah! Thanks for visiting my blog 🙂
We love the beach, but I’m pretty sure Jules would say that Target is just as much fun!!
